Healthy people who don't want to go to school or work like the idea of socialism because they want "something for doing nothing" from the government. People who work and get ahead want to keep what they earned, minus a few necessary taxes. So, in a socialistic system, laziness is rewarded. People who work and earn get "screwed over" by having to support the lazy folks. In time, the system breaks down because there is no incentive to work if you can't keep what you earn. So, everyone becomes poor and a nation makes little progress to improve their citizens' lives.

Communism forces people to work under the threat of punishment so people are demoralized and want to leave their country. This is what has hapened under Castro in Cuba as well in the USSR before it collapsed and China before it changed to capitalism.
