I am a physician and holder of Mela stock. For the boards information even if Melafind is approved there is a difficult road to profitability. Specifically, expensive devices are difficult to sell to physicians unless the test is reimbursable. Many new devices, which are helpful in the diagnosis of disease, have no reimbursement by either Medicare or private insurers and therefore are a difficult sell to a practice. Even if reimbursement is achieved it may be at a very low level. This is common. The number of tests needed to pay for the device becomes unreasonable. The last factor is physician liability. If after using Melafind a patient is told his pigmented lesion is benign but later finds that it was a melanoma a large lawsuit could follow. The physician must prove that he did not deviate from the standard of care in his community which at the present time is biopsy. Will physicians risk this exposure and sleep well at night with this potential risk. Are the findings of non malignancy by Melafind acceptable in court? These are all potential problems that the investor may not be aware of. In the current economic environment I know for sure that Medicare is cutting all its reimbursments even for proven devices such at MRI and CAT scans.
