+++++++++++ WASHINGTON (Marketwatch) - Orders for U.S. manufactured goods increased 0.9% in September in machinery, autos, defense goods, and chemicals, the Commerce Department said. Factory orders have risen in five of the past six months. September's gain was stronger than expected. Orders for durables increased an upwardly revised 1.4% and nondurable goods increased 0.6%. Inventories fell 1% the 13th consecutive time. Manufacturing and Housing Surge November 2, 2009 The Institute for Supply Management index grew at the fastest pace in October since April 2006. The ISM index of 55.7 is much better than economists expected. It was the third month above 50 which indicates growth. The National Association of Realtors said pending home sales increased for the eighth month in September.
