TM's publication of Syke's article is certainly curious. Sykes suggests in his article he does not have a current position in COIN. In light of Sykes' short enthusiasm in many previous posts on this MB, I have written to the SEC suggesting they look into his article in Trading Markets.

I located the following which I found troubling:

"D. Are short sales legal?
...it is prohibited for any person to engage in a series of transactions in order to create actual or apparent active trading in a security or to depress the price of a security for the purpose of inducing the purchase or sale of the security by others. Thus, short sales effected to manipulate the price of a stock are prohibited."

"Manipulation.
Manipulation is intentional conduct designed to deceive investors by controlling or artificially affecting the market for a security. Manipulation can involve a number of techniques to affect the supply of, or demand for, a stock. They include: spreading false or misleading information about a company; improperly limiting the number of publicly-available shares; or rigging quotes, prices or trades to create a false or deceptive picture of the demand for a security. Those who engage in manipulation are subject to various civil and criminal sanctions."

Syke's article did not provide support for its claims, nor did it include objective
fact. I read it as selectively excluding information with the intent to create a misperception of the company that would devalue the share price.
