After all this is the CPTC board!

More specifically, let's discuss accc sales (or lack thereof) in the US utility industry over the past 3 or 4 years.

Yesterday Craps cited as examples of thriving accc sales in the US 3 installations from CPTC press releases over 3 years ago.

The first installation he cited was a PR dated 2/23/06 for WAPA's Phoenix line of @ 6,000 feet.

The second and third citations were for AEP's lines in TX and AR.

Now pay special attention to Craps's special twist and interpretation of these installations when he says......

"or some of the larger lines that have been in place for over 3 years?"

And also re-read the CPTC PR's to see if you get any hint from them that they might just have been "temporary" type installs.

Nope, CPTC's PR would make you believe that these are orders for the long term replacement of Steel conductors.

But as I have said before, it's not what CPTC says in their PR's that's important, it's what they don't say!

So let's see what the real purpose of these accc order was.

Let's go to AEP's own PR of Jan,2008 describing their take on why they used accc on the Chamber Springs to Tontitown,AR line, so that.........

NORTHWEST ARKASAS 345 KV AND 161 KV UPGRADES

Project Description:

"AEP installed state-of-the art Aluminum Composite Conductor Core (ACCC) on a 12 mile section of Southwester Electric Power Company's transmission system in northwest Arkansas as an INTERIM (my emphasis) step to ensure system reliability pending a broader plan to build new extra-high voltage transmission in the area...
This reconductoring maintained for reliability for this region over the summer of 2007 UNTIL ( my emphasis) SWEPCO could place a new approximately 345 kv line in service ... in June 2008."

So this accc install was never meant to be a permanent installation according to AEP but a TEMPORARY INSTALL. And the temporary install was only for 12 months or so!

So when AEP decided to make the permanent install, what type of conductor do you think they chose?

Let's go back to AEP's Press release......................

"The new 345 kV line is being built with bundled 795 ALUMINUM CONDUCTOR STEEL REINFORCED (ACSR) conductor while the new 161 kV line uses 1590 ACSR.

SO, AEP chooses ACSR for their permanent installs.

Now folks, did you get that from CPTC's PR?

Nope, what you got from their PR was that this was a repeat order suggesting a permanent installation of accc replacing acsr.
And Craps, this line was NOT IN PLACE FOR OVER 3 YEARS! Try maybe
13 months or so.
