As a GYNO Doc I have access to medical publications. This month "Review in Obstetrics and Gynecology" did a comparison of Essure and Adiana.

A notable comment on Adiana was:

The cumulative failure rates were
1.08% at 1 year and 1.82% at 2 years.6
These effectiveness data are within the
range of all sterilization methods evaluated
by the CREST study at similar
time intervals; however, the Adiana
failure rate is higher than all methods
evaluated in the study, except for the
spring clip application.12

Note this data was only for published pregnancies at the time this was written. The often hidden or denied pregnancies from subsequent years (3, 4, 5) have not been factored into this review yet. Since Adiana was already the highest failure rate of devices (save the clip) prior to the additional data, it is safe to ssy that Adiana is likely to hold sole possession of the highest failure rate device approved when the newer data is included.

As I said in my note from last August:
"Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but they are not entitled to the facts."
It looks like the facts are not what I thought. The Adiana device really has a efficacy issue relative to any other Sterilization device.

Sometimes medical people, be they docs or people that like to read medical literature and pretend to be docs can make awful errors in judgment. They can often mislead others through arrogance and ignorance. It just important that we get the real facts out after making an ass of ourselves when we misquote the "facts"
