OK, I've got to admit it. I lost it over the last two days. Very uncharacteristic for me. I'm not a whiner or a complainer. I'm usually just analytical or I don't post. I broke my cardinal rule of getting emotional over a stock. As a result, I became what I loathe, a whiner. Forgive me.
For the record, I've got a huge (for me) play here, over 90,000 shares. I truly believe in CNO, and fundamentally, this is an amazing buy right now. As you all already know, everything is positive: valuation is ridiculously low, trading at <40% of BV, they keep earning money and beating estimates, they've taken care of their biggest overhang, the debt issue, even the remaining issues of low grade bonds and CRE are looking better, they continue to work to improve the company, Bankers Life continues to add more sales staff, a very smart man named Paulson now owns 10% of CNO, the overall market has had a few very good days, jobless claims are down, most businesses are raising forecasts for next year, etc, etc. I'm sure I'm still missing a few items. But, for these very same reasons, I'm totally frustrated and befuddled by the recent trading action and share price. I'm not a newbie, and I've seen this before (going back to Cendant in the 80's for those who remember). Sometimes it means nothing, sometimes it indicates something is happening below the surface. We just never know, and so we take the risk based on our best DD and a prayer. Yes, I'm a long term hold here, but as we've seen over the past 2 years, we have to be diligent and watch our positions like a hawk. One hopes that obvious catalysts move the stock price in an obvious fashion, and that these upward events make new floors/resistance as we climb accordingly. Truthfully, the scariest part here is that there is every reason for CNO to have jumped, and no reason for it not to. Hence my concern. My mistake is having become emotionally attached and reacting emotionally rather than clinically, and actually sharing my concern with this board in a child-like manner. Damn, I'm embarassed.
