I am of a similar view. The gold purchase by India seems to me to be part of a much larger game, a lot of it having to do with all the paper we have sold BRIC, and they know they aren't going to get repaid face value. Depreciated dollars.

Looks to me that there is a hard asset counter play going on here. Like a "trade" could be arranged, later.
