Virtually every suburban shopping center has empty space. The owners of these properties are often unable to keep up payments on their mortgages and the tenants that are captured now will be shopping for very cheap space when their lease expires. CBSH must have considerable exposure to this arena is my guess. I don't think their is serious risk of insolvency for the bank, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that earnings are going to be punished severely by loan losses come year end. Just a guess, I don't have any information not available to the public. Wouldn't the bank be reassuring investors if the risk weren't serious ? Any thoughts ? WW
