BPA (bisphenol A) is used primarily in polycarbonate plastics. But it is also used in other types as well.

Most plastic made from polycarbonate is stamped with a "PC" in a recycle triangle someplace on the product. Sometimes there is a "7" instead of a "PC" which is basically a catch all so it could contain some portion of polycarbonate and it also could not. Also if you do not want to amplify the effects of BPA on your food, then do not put hard plastic containers which contain BPA into the microwave.

Polycarbonate is usually a hard type plastic. So if the product in question is soft (thin walled and flexable is not the same thing as soft) than it probably is not made from polycarbonate plastic. To be safe, it must say BPA-free on the product somewhere.

So what does this mean? Who knows. I cannot find the real statistic for plastic made from BPA in the USA nor a rate for plastic which comes in contact with food, but there is a link below which will let you buy it for about 4600 USD. I have looked, nothing is reputable and that info is on lock down. So anybody who quotes a rate with no reference is full of poo.

I would venture a guess that polycarbonate is highly used and the issue is pretty widespread.

Basically, this is a real problem and Cereplast solves the problem. We are all in early and it is only a matter of time.
