I've just started doing DD on this company. Can anybody fill in the details of the problem with the exclusive Japanese distributor? I would appreciate correction, clarification, and expansion from knowledgeable posters. Here's what I understand"

They have said that the distributor has introduced low cost AED models of its own that have eaten into CSC's share. Is it typical in the medical device market, to have an exclusive distributor who can screw you like this? From the CC, it sounds like those with distribution networks get to call the shots, since it is expensive to start from scratch. (And I take it this works to CSC's benefit, in some cases--they mentioned the high margins they are able to get when they have the upper hand.) It seems that they are now in the process of finding alternative distribution in Japan, and that this will take time and money. If they can swing it, then they'll hopefully be able to tap back in to the nice Japanese market they benefited from last year.

Is this about right? Can anybody add anything relevant? TIA.

Interesting company that's either on the edge of a bounce or the edge of a precipice. It seems that they have enough cash and sales networks in place not to be on a precipice. But who knows.
