Cogent is a sales driven organization, yet they have a clueless moron in charge of sales who fundamentaly does not understand busiess 101.
As with many 90's dot com companies that failed, Cogent ascribes to the old and failed "churn and burn" method of hiring and firing sales people. They as much as Worldcom, UUNET, and other dead companies, rely on simple sales numbers to determine who goes and who stays, a huge mistake and a reputation that is well known among IT sales proffesionals. Thus they create a self fulfilling prophecy, people go to work for them knowing that no matter how many great sales and relationships they build, they will be terminated for having a few bad consecutive months. What you eventually end up with is a revolving pool of a young raw salesforce with no experince and little relationship building skills. Most of Cogents management is very good, its the few at the top who, still believing in failed methods and obviously not caring for people in general, continue to make the same mistakes over and over, constantly change the inside rules, and walk around with blinders on, only looking straight ahead at 'the numbers'. Cogent has become the new XO, which was always known to hire just about anybody at high salaries, and let you hang around for years even if your sales sucked.
My only intent here is to not see you burned by buying shares of a company that continues to follow failed policies and old dumb game plans from other failed companies. Cogent should make a nice take over target some day, then a smart company will clean out the people who are killing future and present sales with moronic tactics and rules.
