"...China Sky One has predicted it will book revenues of $82 million this year. The single analyst who follows the company expects its 2009 top line to equal $131 million in 2009, a 60% jump year-over-year. The company’s net income typically runs slightly above 25%, proving that it isn’t chasing market share at the expense of the bottom line. It had $42.5 million in cash at the end of Q2, and its return on equity is an astonishing 46%. These are admirable numbers.

But investors don’t seem to be paying attention. After hitting a high of $17.10 early in the summer, China Sky One’s shares have slipped down to $12.61. That gives the company a P/E ratio of 8.6 for the past 12 months, and a forward P/E number of 5 for 2009, if the company hits its expected targets."

Once again, I believe that we make a mistake if we analyze China, putting it in focus with the reference of western minds, there is a cultural issue and we should not judge their traditions. This company has Traditional Chinese Medicines and modern medicines including a wide range portfolio of products presenting different nature: spray, gel, injection, patch, suppositories...
It is clear that their products have acceptance from the market and revising earnings reports, those products are further penetrating the market (TCM and modern medicines). They have a strong pipeline as well.
This is the right company in the right place, a growth company in a sector that should be less afeccted by reccesion, operating in China where health expenses are going to increase substantially for the coming years.
Revising the press release, 30% revenue increase.
-reference 2008, that should be account for around 20-30 million $
-reference 2009, revenue from this products would be around 40-50 $.
In any case that is an important plus for the botoom line.

My estimates:
eps 2009: 2,5 - 3
eps 2010: 4 - 4,5
I will keep my shares for at least 2 years.

My opinion is that if approved those drugs will add 30% increase to the bottom line, as guidance for 2009 is not formally express, they did not give an accurate number to the pr. It depends on SFAD approvals, but revenue estimates, considering 60% growth should be around 140-150 (that should be the bottom line). 30% increase would suppose about 40-50 million$, which is quite reasonable, considering they are 26 drugs (2 million each). That sums 180-200 million $ revenue for 2009 and eps should be closer to 3 than to 2,5 (yahoo estimates 2,46). I believe it is well worth keep shares for a couple of years

These are my numbers:

- Kit tests: they have guided 8 million $ revenue for the second half of the year, which would be certainly a significant growth comparing it to 2 million $ in Q2. I would divided those 8 million $ (4-5 Q3 and 3-4 Q4). Being conservative Q3 should be 3-5 million $.
- Patches (including lose weight series and anti-smoking patches). I believe that patches division is going to be an important area for the coming quarters, I even would dare to say that anti-smoking patch is going to be their best selling product for the next year, furthermore they consider these products will have great acceptance in global markets. This quarter they will start generating revenue from the recently approved patches but will not reflect the real posibilities of this area that will increase traction in 2009. In a few words Q3 revenue 6-8 million $.
- Ointments: revenue from new products (partly in Q3) and expanding sales marketing should mean increasing revenue. 6-8 million $.
- Rest of products 10-12 million $

Total medium range: 27-31
eps: 0,55-0,60
That is my opinion for the quarter which is quite above market estimates (0,45 eps).
Anyway, they are usually conservative, if they announce guidance they will say more than 5 cents less than their real estimates
For Q4 the range is wider, I expect 0,45-0,55 eps (still higher than yahoo estimates 0,40).
Full year estimates 2008 eps 1,75-2,00.

News dated May
http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS15764+05-May-2008+PRN20080505

they are expecting approval for these kind of devices, easier to use and cheaper. Once they get approval for the device, their diagnostic kits are going to get dramatically increased (probably second half 2009). Althought they are already experiencing explosive growth in this segment
they are expecting approval for 3 more diagnostic kits:

AIDS Early Examination Kit
Carcinoma Cervix Early Examination Kit
Breast Cancer Early Examination Kit

My recommendation, keep your shares at least for a couple of years, don´t be tempted to sell at 25 or 30 $, in 2-3 years this company will play a significant role in China´s biotechnology market. You might miss the big run

An article of Tony Blair on China

We Can Help China Embrace the Future

By TONY BLAIR in The Wall Street Journal, August 26, 2008

[Mr. Blair, former prime minister of Great Britain , is teaching a course on faith and globalization at the Yale Schools of Management and Divinity].

The Beijing Olympic Games were a powerful spectacle, stunning in sight and sound. But the moment that made the biggest impression on me came during an informal visit just before the Games to one of the new Chinese Internet companies, and in conversation with some of the younger Chinese entrepreneurs.
These people, men and women, were smart, sharp, forthright, unafraid to express their views about China and its future. Above all, there was a confidence, an optimism, a lack of the cynical, and a presence of the spirit of get up and go, that reminded me greatly of the U.S. at its best and any country on its way forward.

These people weren't living in fear, but looking forward in hope. And for all the millions still in poverty in China, for all the sweep of issues -- political, social and economic -- still to be addressed, that was the spirit of China during this festival of sport, and that is the spirit that will define its future.
During my 10 years as British leader, I could see the accelerating pace of China 's continued emergence as a major power. I gave speeches about China , I understood it analytically. But I did not feel it emotionally and therefore did not fully understand it politically.

Since leaving office I have visited four times and will shortly return again. People ask what is the legacy of these Olympics for China ? It is that they mark a new epoch -- an opening up of China that can never be reversed. It also means that ignorance and fear of China will steadily decline as the reality of modern China becomes more apparent.

Power and influence is shifting to the East. In time will come India , too. Some see all this as a threat. I see it as an enormous opportunity. But we have to exercise a lot of imagination and eliminate any vestiges of historic arrogance.

The volunteer force that staged the Games was interested, friendly and helpful. The whole feel of the city was a world away from the China I remember on my first visit 20 years ago. And the people are proud, really and honestly proud, of their country and its progress.

No sensible Chinese person -- including the country's leadership -- doubts there remain issues of human rights and political and religious freedom to be resolved. But neither do the sensible people -- including the most Western-orientated Chinese -- doubt the huge change, for the better, there has been. China is on a journey. It is moving forward quickly. But it knows perfectly well the journey is not complete. Observers should illuminate the distance to go, by all means, but recognize the distance traveled.
The Chinese leadership is understandably preoccupied with internal development. Beijing and Shanghai no more paint for you the complete picture of China - than New York and Washington do of the U.S.

Understanding the internal challenge is fundamental to understanding China, its politics and its psyche. We in Europe have roughly 5% of our population employed in agriculture. China has almost 60%. Over the coming years it will seek to move hundreds of millions of its people from a rural to an urban economy. Of course India will seek to do the same, and the scale of this transformation will create huge challenges and opportunities in the economy, the environment and politically.
.....

typical basher´s post:
A) First introducing himself as an respectable an objective person who is analysing the stock in a critical way (from my point of view that is positive)
"I am a susscessful phisician" come on! we are not children. Al least be original, I remember having read a similar introduction in another board 2 or 3 months ago(don´t recall where thought it was also a biotechnology company, could eveen be this very same board) .
B) Margins: ratios are rather similar to other chinese companies trading in nasdaq like CMED and AOB.
C) Generating doubts about their finantial condition:
Why raise 25 million $ in a private placement, if they have so much money, (42 million $)?
That´s a good question, well the answer is simple. 42 million $ is at June 30th. take out 25 million $ (22-23 considering expenses related to the placement) and the cash generated in Q1 and Q2 and you get a picture with less than 10 million $ cash at the beginning of the year (when they raised those 25 million $), so if they wanted to make adquisitions, start a market campaign, further enhance sales network, increase research and dev., increase production... That money was neccesary at the beginning of the year.
Doubts about their finantial condition:
OK, I don not Know for sure if every receiveable is accounted correctly or revenue is recognized at the rigth time (this is extensive to a lot of companies). But let me tell you something, altought I am not a successful accountant, I think that it is quite difficult to generate 42 million $ (assuming banks are not liers or altruist entities). So no debt and 42 million $ in banks give them credibility and some kind of warranty for us (2,5 $ per share, probably above 3$/share this quarter).
C) CFO affair, that is objective I can not deny it. CFO vacancy being assumed by an interim CFO is not desirable, I think we all agree about that. We all want stabiliy in that area, I honestly believe company is working in that direction, otherwise appointing independent auditors would make no sense nor their initiative to trade in Nasdaq.
D) I have a friend of a friend who assures me that you are a basher and is also believed you are another reddog´s nick who is ashamed enough to use the same nick after his glourious post. Advice: change your nick again and continue making some dd.

Thanks for the insight dude. It's good to get both sides of the story sometimes. Postive and Negative. I think the main thing investor's are concerned about with CSY is whether it is legit or a sketchy company. Could the numbers be too good to be true? But as it stands, CSY is very impressive. Solid growth, gaining exposure through AMEX and now Nasdaq. Funds buying in. Lots of Cash on Hand. New pipeline of drugs and products being pushed out. Acquisitions. As long as this company keeps posting good quarterly results I think it is capable 3x or 4x current PPS in the right conditions. The risk will always be there with these stocks. But even solid company of the year stocks like Nvidia can drop 50% on a bad quarter.

Let's hope a new CFO will be announced soon. That will give investor's more confidence in the company.

Good Luck Everyone

Disclosure: I am a successful physician, currently having no stake at CSY, but is considering buying considerable number of shares.

The Form 10K and 10Q of CSY are very impressive: EPS growth >50%, PE of <10 and debt free. I decided to do further research and share my findings with everyone. I hope to receive comments because some companies are less than honest in the disclosure of their financial info. I was burned years ago in drug company Elan and in U.S. Surgical (later bought by Tyco), attracted to their explosive growth.

A. Reviewing their Form 10Q, I noted that their margins are well >70%. Since they do not have any patented drugs, I have doubts about the credibility of such high margins. Their depreciation schedule is too slow (depreciating cars over 15 years). There ought to be allowance for doubtful receiveables, appropriately increasing because the revenue is growing.

B. The company sold approx $25 million worth of shares in private placement earlier in the year for $10/share, plus free warrants to buy additional shares at $12.5 for 3 years, while the shares were trading around $13-14. In addition, the warrants call for adjusting the exercising downwards if the eps for 2008 should be less than 1.60/share or so. The company has plenty of liquidity. Why is the management is eager to raise so much cash when there is no immediate need and the free cash flow is increasing so rapidly. They ought to know that the share prices will increase even faster without such dilution and they can fetch better terms when they wait until just before they actually need the money. Why don't they have a rights offering to existing shareholders, if they want additional cash as a cushion?

C. In June, CSY announced the intended purchase of J. Chuang for 2.5 million in cash and 4.6 million in shares. According to the Audit Integrity Report, J. Chuang sells 21 injectable/oral drugs and is worth $10 million. Something is wrong. Why would a viable going concern agree to be acquired for significantly less than its book value?

D. The company, formerly known as Comet has a spotted past. It has a explosive growth only since 2006. According to Audit Integrity, (available on Fidelity Investment web site for free and probably avialable on other broker's web sites) the company changed its accounting firm twice in 2008 and changed its CFO twice in 2008, a most unusual behavior, IF the Company is indeed doing as well as claims to do.

D. I had a friend calling a friend who is a Chinese health official near Canton. He told us that the Tian Di Ren, the main operating arm of the company had an adverse event last month. Does any one know what it is, or can we find out by calling the company?
