Management at the Terre Haute Bemis plant has decided to retaliate against the workers who went out on strike by removing all chairs from the production floor. They weren't really chairs, more like stools with a small backrest. NLRB charges have been filed. People are working 12-hour shifts with no opportunity to sit down except for 3 times during that 12 hours. Machine operators do extensive data input connected to the orders they run, quality, etc. This work has always been done while seated. Now the desks have all been raised 6-8 inches and employees must stand almost all of a 12-hour shift. Meanwhile, management's claim of a desire to "heal" after the strike is met with sarcasm and disgust by the workforce. Experienced workers vital to the operation are quitting and/or looking for work elsewhere. Workers continue with informational pickets in front of the plant. They got their mandatory blood draw for health insurance eligibility, now they want workers to deal with foot, ankle, knee, hip and back injuries. Doesn't this work against the goal of the corporation to reduce medical claims? Doesn't it work counter to management's goals to continue pouring salt into the wounds of workers while claiming a desire to "heal"? Do the people at corporate headquarters understand what is going on? Doesn't this impact stock prices? After reading this: http://www.fool.com/investing/general/20... , I'm thinking so.
All the workers want is to return to work and put the labor dispute behind them. It would seem that management in Terre Haute is willing to continue the fight even if it means threatening the already-damaged future. Rating :
