Back in 1945 the smog problem in Southern California had gotten very severe. Sometimes the eye irritation was so bad that people couldn't drive their cars. Dr. Hagen-Schmidt trapped a sample of smog and found it was made from hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides. Both of these come from automobile exhaust. The California legislature passed laws requiring cars to be operated in Californnia must have exhaust treatment to remove these materials. The car companies resisted but the law was enforced.
Today the Southern California is smog-free. The next problem will follow. Gomor Rating :
