Code, as an engineer also, and also having been a partner in a windmill company, I can give you a few insights from the recent negotiations for the signing of an agreement to lease easement rights for windmills on our land.

The towers will be 400 feet high to the center of the necelle. With 180 foot blades, total height is close to 600 feet. The tower is to be made of concrete and anchored to a 40 X 40 foot pad 8 feet thick. The tower alone weighs in at 1100 tons. The issue not yet resolved is who pays for the remediation after the fact? This is not something you dynamite and clear the debris.

However, no one lives withing 4 miles of the site. Hence noise, ice throws, blade breaks, are really not an issue. And the only bird kills will probably be migrating Canadian Geese, a pestulance upon the land in any event.

Further, land use is minimal, usually about 2-3% of the land area.

I am ready to ink pending their posting a bond for the removal of all emplacements. After all, this is a 55 year agreement, and I will not be here to enforce them. But since I have raised a covey of attorneys who will inherit, maybe they will.
