Does anyone here follow Boralex (BLX)? Is it a good investment? I've been researching this company, and on the google chart there was a news-item that linked to this article that says Boralex is undervalued and should be "$15.75". Is that reasonable?

I've been watching the stock on and off for some time. It seems it should be more valuable than it was in the past, yet the share price is down. To the extent these companies compete with electricity generated with coal or natural gas, the decline in the price of natural gas (I don't follow the price of coal, buy maybe should) - would seem to have some influence - although I suspect a good portion of their earnings is determined by contracts, some of which may be related to other energy prices. Otherwise, the evolution of various efforts to set up a cap and trade system or a carbon tax should have some influence. I'm a bit uncomfortable with the wood waste projects and with the arrangement with the Boralex income fund. I perceive there are so many undervalued companies, I'm flumoxed (financial term?).

Well put, so what are you thinking as per a reasonable target for boralex.

I guess just like everything else this stock's price will depend more on systematic elements rather than its internal developments.

Whats your position and how long have you been tracking this stock? Are you in the financial industry?

eric,

I'm not sure how one would determine the sector for Boralex. On the one hand you could say it's related to clean energy, although I don't know if the wood waste is so clean. One could also put it in a category of stocks that don't pay dividends or stocks that rely or are exposed (rate risk) to some degree to the access (availability) to financing. I don't know whether to think the benefits of the company are in a related but separate dividend paying entity. The stocks of a number of other clean energy companies with exposure to the credit crisis are also doing poorly.

sure, then discuss this.
