Laboring hard to avoid layoffs

ALBANY, N.Y. -- "We tend to work at the early stage of drug discovery and development," said Ron O'Brien, the Director of Communications at AMRI. "Drugs that you’re familiar with, we may have done work on the development of those drugs."

Work done by almost 850 employees here in New York who won't see layoffs in the immediate future. The company's avoids them, it says, by looking back.

"We started back in 1991 in the Capital Region and so we've been through a number of economic cycles at this point," said O'Brien. "And having seen the way large pharmaceutical companies and bio-tech companies have reacted, has given us insight into what their needs are in situations like this."

So the company now offers a broader range of solutions for a bio-tech industry feeling the pressure. In many ways it's a return to the basics and a fundamental business tool. Trust.
