Royalty payments on all global obesity sales while assuming very little risk and very little expenses looks like a much better deal for Amylin share holders, compared to the lopsided deal Joe Cook agreed to in favor of his former employer Lilly.

The only upside potential for Amylin in the Lilly deal is from the U.S., but even that has significant costs associated with it and who knows when and if Lilly will ever decide to push Byetta enough outside the U.S. to allow royalty payments to begin for Amylin.
