Bernie created a business model that no management team could readily turn around. Namely - Bernie ran a vendor supply business to companies that took Analogic's technology, embedded it into their systems, amd proceeded to make a fortune. By definition, the profitability and growth of the company depended on the fortunes of their customers. When times were good, Analogic made money and hoarded it. Rather than spending the capital to expand the business or reduce the risk of a concentrated customer base, Bernie and his boys sat around and did nothing. Now, as the market for Analogic's products (and their customer's systems) are in the tank for the foreseeable future, Analogic is in trouble. Don't blame the guys that inherited the business - they are forced to make tough choices to try and hang on.

Bernie eventually saw the limits of his own business model and started up NeuroLogica with a cadre of hand-picked Analogic employees.
