Dan, I've read your blog for a while and find your writting rather inpartial (until recently) but I think what you fail to realize (and I know you are not an equity analyst, rather you are a cdn analyst/reporter) is that wether or not AKAM is 'losing' cdn customers the rate at wich the streaming/cdn business is growing far outpaces any customer loses (you are focusing on semantics). Generally it is accepted that as a whole AKAM is GAINING net customers and if you know their business model, they are NOT A PURE CDN provider, they cross-sell VAS to their customers and if history is any indication, they cross-sell VERY WELL (cerno). All in all, the amount of information (bits) passing over the internet is EXPLODING, and we are just begining to see what the future holds for HD/internet connectivity over the home network and the bandwith heavy content that will come with it. AKAMAI is the leader in CDN (yes they are) and that is possible not even considered a pure CORE business of theirs anymore as over the last 2 years they have done a hell of a job diversifying their revenue model. You need to start realizing that AKAM is a superpower in this space and they own most of the technology that gives them a ridiculous amount of insight into the inner workings of the internet that no-one (perhaps not even google) has. I expect a blow out Q4 and I would recommend to you as well to start diversifying your coverage space outside of pure CDN commentary...my feeeling is the future may hold 2-3 significant players in that space and Akamai will remain the leader, now that they have decided to join the price wars, everyone will suffer as AKAM grows.
