Prague - The Czech military will buy two sets of the U.S. remote-controlled miniature unmanned aerial vehicle (MUAV) AeroVironment RQ-11 Raven for 20 million crowns by the end of November.

In all, these will be six planes including all logistics.

"The planes are to be deployed with the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) now operating in the province Logar," military spokesman Jan Pejsek said.

Pejsek said the Ravens were fully compatible within NATO and there were positive experiences with their long-term use within the international peace-keeping mission ISAF.

RQ-11 Raven is manufactured by the firm AeroVironment.

It has the advantage that it can be launched by hand.

In full speed, it can fly up to 95 kph, with the flying range of about 10 kilometres.

The U.S. military uses it primarily in Iraq and Afghanistan. The equipment is also owned by Danish and Spanish crack units. The Ravens are powered by electrical motor, use GPS and have a laser marker guiding the planes to targets.

The MUAVs help soldiers uncover ambushes and can also be used for reconnaissance purposes.
