Unfortunately there are those salespeople that think they are advisors and recommend annuities first (and only) and thats who you talked to. Luckily you were smart enough to realize it wasn't what you were looking for. I wouldn't just sit tight and collect your dividends because your underlying holdings might not be right for you in retirement. My suggestion is to visit several advisors and seek recommendations from each one. If they give you one suggestion move on. If they give you several options they probably are thinking more like an advisor and less like a product pusher. Ask what your costs are and what the risks involved in their recommendations would be.
Since talking to them is free, don't worry about talking to more than a couple and my guess is you will know which one is right for you. Good luck
