Yesterdays presentation was pretty dry and basicly reinterated the BLOOM/BLOSSOM study results BUT during the last 5 minutes there was an interesting exchange during the question/answer session. Clearly Arena understands that this is a marathon and while they have clearly lost the sprint they have their eye on the big prize. Pre clinical studies showed that Lorcaserin/phentermine was very effective but that getting Lorcaserin approved by itself was much more important than revving up results with a combo drug initially. Arena would entertain further studies *after* Lorcaserin approval. Everyone expects this combination to be used at some point and Arena holds the patent. Wall St is short sighted while Arena understands the gold mine they are sitting on right now as well as in the future. One step at a time.
