Little reductions in force here and there….

This is an on-going event, only limited in quantity. I know of several employees who came into work, sat down and received an email requesting they visit their manager. No warnings, nothing on their work performance to indicate that the axe was about to fall. But .. it falls. You’re fired as of RIGHT NOW. No 30 day warning. These people are simply given 30 minutes to clean out their desks and are then ESCORTED out of the building. (I noticed a large number of empty cubicles by the way).

The net result on surrounding staff is that nobody feels safe. Everyone is terrified or at least on edge. Particularly insulting is that employees are requested to give 2 weeks notice if they take another job. But, we can terminate you anytime, for no reason at all. No job is guaranteed of course. This may be part of restructuring. But to do it in a random, haphazard fashion rather than as, at least, an announced entity is to put the fear of unemployment into everybody 24 hours a day.

The Aon website makes a big point of their commitment to clients. A commitment to employees, eh, colleagues … would be well in order. No such commitment exists. A mockery.
