- To construct 30MW wind farm by 2013

Doosan signed a memorandum of understanding on April 6 with Korea Hydro Nuclear Power Co. and NCE for the construction of a 30MW offshore wind farm in Hangyeong- myeon, Jeju City.

Accordingly, Doosan will supply 3MW wind turbines, whose development will be completed in the second half of this year. Korea Hydro Nuclear will take charge of the overall project, including the construction and operation of the plant, while the Jeju-based NCE will win the permits and approvals for the project and deal with the resolution of any civil complaints, as the trio conducts the joint project.

If the offshore wind farm is completed in 2013, it will generate 10.08 MWh of electricity per year, which can power around 2,400 households in Jeju, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 6,400 tons/year.

The project entails the installation of a deep-sea structure and wind turbines in waters between 9 and 20 meters deep at locations ranging from 300 to 1,000 meters offshore, and the linking of power lines to transmit power to land for the first time in Korea. As such, the project will require highly advanced technology.
