I used to own VBINX, but recently compared its performance to Vanguard Wellington, another balanced asset alloation fund. I have since moved over to Wellington.
VBINX has inferior growth: check the performances of these two funds during the last bull market (2003-2007). My sources say Wellington did 2% per annum better. Plus, check out some of the moves recently where Wellington gains and VBINX loses. Over time, this will cost you thousands. I love Vanguard and balanced allocation funds, but VBINX ain't it.
