I bought VBMFX in October for my IRA.

I'll continue to dollar-cost average for the next several months. VBMFX is near its 52-week high price.

4%+ divy and NAV doesn't have wide swings. Principal will probably go lower because NAV also will go lower.

I need to build income for the next 10 years.

Good choice in good and bad times if you don't have to sell at its low point.

Just sold VWESX yesterday after a nice run up this summer. I switched to ginnie Mae. When interest rates are anticipated to rise this will tank for sure. Ginnie Mae is a little less sensitive to interest rate hikes. I think we are in a dangerous time. I don't buy the V shape recovery talk. Being cautious.

If you talk to the experts, last year's index meltdown also affected VWESX NAV head lower <8. NAV should have gone higher, but did not.

Takes time to base, then move higher. Majority of investors insist holding US Treasury Notes & securities, not wanting to risk losing it all, despite low yields <3%+.

IMO, will like to see VWESX NAV 9+ by end of the year. Might be stuck <8.25 for awhile. Hope I'm wrong. Earning 6%+ while waiting.

Just a commentary: I hold both funds in my IRA account since both pay good interest rates.

VFIIX very steady NAV, while VWESX pays a higher interest rate on corp bonds, has higher swings in NAV. In the ladder case, best if you dollar-cost average. Bought at the top in 2005 prices over 9+, and now <8, some between 8<x<9.

Well, I'm not so sure about this or anyother Corp. Bond Fund... I mean , just look at it's past 10 yrs apy?
It's marginal
Look at what it did in 03'? Marginal again
Compare it to LT Treasuries, GNMA etc.?

And of course, IAD on what your Investing into Bonds For?
A. Preservation of your $ in a Bear market and make at least 5% apy?
B. Or To make More $ with it than conventional Bond funds?

And it sure is pretty tough Beting LT Treas., like VUSTX now isn't it? Just compare the past 10 yrs..!

Now if want to play ? EOY in Treas and EOY in VWEHX
And VWEHX always following a Bear ..( +17% in 03')

Worked the past 2 times for me..
What did VUSTX do in 08'?
now it's due to Do poorly this Yr, thus you move into The Corp. bonds like a VWEHX..

Or oyu find a Fund that does that for you.. but the one I have charges (a) $100k Min. to get in and (b) 1.5% Yr In fees.. To me? That's worth it at Twice their Fee...
