Decemeber now and still 100% stocks!! Some "Allocation"!! The fund managers are robbing us blind. I hold this in my 401K but am thinking of transferring it to a 2005 target date fund as I am close to retirement and will never recover from the shafting I have taken this year. You live an learn.

You can't even read their webpage: VAAPX has been between a 85/15 and 75/25 allocation throughout the year.

They don't hold bonds at this point, but cash, which is a good strategy given the current situation.

Why invest in this fund? I have been asking myself this for the past few months and I have come the the conclusion that an investor should stay away. This fund is supposed to move its allocation between stocks, bonds, and money markets to find the best returns for its share holders. For this entire year that the stock market has been on a wild ride, the fund has been in 100% stocks. I do not know what algorithms they use to justify that, but they were 100% wrong. Will it go to 100% bonds when the stock market goes up again. Why not simply go with a cheaper Index 500 fund? On the Vanguard summery page about this fund, it states:

Seeks to maximize long-term total return (share price growth plus income) while incurring less stock market risk than a fund made up entirely of stocks.

Well, they didn't. If you are thinking about investing in this fund, just pick another.

We must be twins, in regards to Vanguard and Bogle.
But I'm not sure about this fund. It's low expenses, low turnover, which is good. And they can shift from stocks to bonds to cash as much as they want, as much as putting 100% into one of the three. That adaptability should be an advantage.

Yet you match their chart vs. the S&P and there's little difference. So you might as well go for a total market index fund.

It's a flexible mutual fund, not a stock, for one. I'm not sure what you mean by cost factor...VAAPX, like most Vanguard funds, is exceptionally low cost...this one I believe is 0.4%, compared to 1-2% for most funds.

An ETF is similar in that it trades as a stock. Generally, when you buy an ETF you pay a commission to the broker (or online broker such as ETrade), while you can buy shares of a mutual fund from Vanguard and other no-load companies directly for free.

Wasn't aware of this stocks existance, came across it accidently. Looks a little interesting.

I was also wondering which trading symbols like this are geared to the mid level and small cap level?

Also, haven't yet found the cost factor but do know there is a $3000. min. to start out with.

Lastly, I wonder why someone would like this kind of stock over and ETF? thanks
