You apparently were refused services for which you are not qualified for, and now you are creating this elitist charge which is unfounded. I'm retired enlisted and have found the service from USAA outstanding. I have my mortgage, auto loan, and investments through this fine institution. Stop the whining and stop blaming others for your short comings.

Being a member of USAA since the late 1960's, I remember the days of being a junior officer after working my butt off to become one, taking no end of guff while doing so and afterwards as well. There wasn't much there for me or others like me but the grief we got for all that went wrong as it came rolling downhill. Thank goodness there was something there for the young commissioned officer besides the lonely existence and abuse that came from both above and below. USAA was founded by officers for officers to give them something for their sacrifices while we served our apprenticeship back when all we had was a pittance for a paycheck and a world of responsibility while dodging bullets both literally and figuratively. And we had it better than those before us who founded USAA.
I welcome others to USAA as has been provided for by USAA's leadership, be it officers, members of their families, or our great brothers and sisters in arms who have served, are serving or will serve our country as enlisted personnel. They won't find class discrimination here but rather, a class organization founded by and consisting of those who have paid the price in so many ways so we still have our great country to serve, and an organization that unselfishly provides us with day-to-day benefit for our service.

Usually, I don't reply to these types of posts, but frankly, I'm getting a little tired of them. When I became an army officer in '81, after being enlisted since '68, one of the first things that I did was join USAA; I looked at it as a benefit, and I've been a member ever since. At that time and I may be wrong, you had to be an officer to join. I think they've loosened some of the requirements since then, and if you can join, be grateful, not spiteful. Whether you like it or not, 'everything' in this world is not'equal' and I applaud the differences. Personally, I'm tired of "women this", and "minorities that", and "illegals rights". Earn your own benefits and stop criticising others who have EARNED more. After being in the army for 14 years, it was not easy for me to become an army aviator and army officer. "IF" you were in the service, you had the same and 'equal' opportunities that I did.

USAA is in my opinion a very discriminatory institution. While they now do provide limited services to enlisted (Troops) USAA caters primarily to Commissioned Officers and in my opinion based on phone conversations with their advisors actively practices class discrimination. It is my personal opinion that I will NOT do business with any business or organization which practices such outdated and feudalistic class discrimination. Trash is as trash does.

I like this fund and plan to keep it for a long time. I would also recommend the bond funds, USAIX & USIBX, for an IRA. The fund managers know what they are doing and the expense ratios are very respectable. I've stopped messing with most equity funds really, except for this one. However, if the Fed drops rates as expected, I would suggest the USAGX as gold will likely soar.
Best wishes to all and good luck with the military. I was a zoomie a few years ago.
