I don't profess to know too much about the bond biz, but this fund looks pretty solid other than the really low div payout. Has the div payout always been relatively low for this fund?

The dollars keeps falling and RPIBX barely moves. How is running this fund since it should be up a lot more then it is. I still see dollar dropping into 2010, but wonder if T.Rowe Price know how to play the falling dollar.

Hopefully we will be in the $12 range before to long.

The US dollar as already fallen a fair distance. Now it will probably rebound for a while. So, I would advise waiting a few months to get a better price. I figure the dollar might come back about 15% or so.

I hold this fund now, and its distributions are pretty anemic, but its up because the dollar weakened. (I bought in 2005.) I am thinking of selling - need to check the tax situation first.

I agree with the concept of buying this sort of fund to short the dollar, but there may be better stocks to do it with that pay better divvies.

Tough to ask for a cookbook, because in a bear market capital preservation is the goal, not making 15%-20%. Much depends on your outlook, personal goals and needs. However, here you go:

20%-40% in foreign currency. If you don't know how to trade currencies, buy MERKX

20%-40% foreign bonds. I like TPINX and RPIBX.

20% shorting the R2000

When the market dies in June you'll hoard your cash to later flip into gold, commodities and real estate in about 18 - 24 months.

I've had this fund for about 15 years. The past 7 or 8 years have been dismal. Considering the performance of the dollar against the Euro the fund should be doing better. My wife has American Century International Bond Fund in her account. It has done much better with the same type of investments. This one has a better yield but I was hoping for appreciation to offset the doggie dollar. A better yield and less share price volitility would suit me some. They spend fund money to hedge but I think they do a very poor job of anticipating currency movements.

Cat,
I feel that the US economy has lots of long term problems and foreign bonds look better and better. I'm not very educated about bonds in general but this looks like a good well diversified foreign bond fund for me to start with. I'm hoping that there will be an occasional message on this board that is educational. Sorry I have so little to contribute but I hope to elarn more and contribute more in the future.
