Looks like it's time to get back in unless there's evidence that fund management is poorly qualified. I doubt a third avenue fund is managed poorly or by poor quality people. It's likely they've been investing in special situations and distressed securities that have been completely hammered to extremely low levels. In other words, the portfolio may be locked and loaded to go up substantially as the panics subside.

I just bought in at $28, transferring from TRREX---a great real estate investment trust (REIT) fund whose performance is a smidge better than TAREX. They rank #5 and #6 in terms of their size within the real estate class. But TAREX appealed to me because of its international exposure---about half in foreign companies. If you absolutely want the regular dividends that a real estate investment trust pays, stick with TRREX. But if you agree with Warren Buffett that thee dollar is going to be weak for the foreseeable future, then TAREX is a conservative way to go. I also like its value philosophy. Regardless, either fund is a sector fund: Unless you're Donald Trump, don't put more than 5% of your portfolio in a narrow sector like real estate. And don't trade in and trade out when it doesn't meet your expectations for the year.

I agree with Buyboringst. What does looking at 200 day moving averages have to do with mutual funds? Of course this fund, as well as all reit funds, are going into a down cycle--this is when you start to add to a fund--when its sector is out of favor, and the stocks it invests in are cheap. It's called "buy low, sell(or hold) high". "Losers" jump on the hot sectors, and whine like babies when those sectors they bought near the top come crashing back down.
As for Heebner(CGMRX), yes, he is undeniably a great investor, however, his real estate fund is actually a metals and mining fund in disguise (look at the top ten holdings). If you are looking to stay in a true real estate fund then TAREX is one of the best. I'm not knocking Heebner, but he likes to jump in and out of stocks(high turnover), so would generate more taxes--better in an IRA or 401K. Anyone saying TAREX is dud, however, just does'nt have a clue.

Tarex is a actually a domestic fund with some international exposure. It also differs substantially from the other 2 by having a 50/50 split between reits and roc's and is the only one of the 3 classified as "low risk." Firex has allready had a manager change. The same person who manages Fresx has taken over that fund, so it's very difficult to evaluate that fund at this point, except to say that the new fund manager may be overextended by managing two funds. If you compare their charts, Tarex winds up in the same place as Eglrx with a lot less volatility. So, I picked Tarex several months ago. Morningstar has also compared these funds. They say that Firex has a bigger bench of analysist suggesting investment picks, but eglrx has a more experienced manager. However, they also seem to be more partial to tarex.
