Your analysis has one flaw - the EU economy is in even worse shape than the US, so either directly or indirectly it is going to need the same kind of external stimulus that the US government (rightly in my opinion) is trying to infuse into the US economy. I do not see govt debt levels being any better in the EU zone long term, particularly when you factor in pension payments for their far older population
