Exactly... Every little bit helps. Watching the markets and 'trying' to time my buys keeps my head in the financial game.

I'll put another $250 or so in next week, or maybe the week after.

I got my first dividend on GABUX... .07 per share right on the 1st - check that one out when you are researching again. It's alright. I may put my next $250 here.

Happy Investing my friend.

The reason I say it took courage to buy on 9/29/08 was because when the market goes down as much as it did, people started bailing--in fact, 1 trillion dollars left the stock market that day.

Now today is a very bad day, too. I believe one reason it's so bad is because The House will be voting on that Bailout bill again tomorrow and people are getting worried again that the bill won't pass. I just hope when they vote they will do what's best for the country, not what's best in getting them re-elected.

Yes, I do tend to buy shares on days when the market is down simply because it gives me more shares for the amount I put in. Then when the market goes up, I'll have more shares to go up.

Thanks Sshap... doesn't take courage if you believe in the opportunity.

The cornerstone of the next house we buy/build (we're in our low 40s' now) here in 6 years will be the gains in this fund (as well as a couple more).

It's not hard to find a bargain, just find a place you trust (it'll likely be down) and a fund that has the best quality 'downtrodden' companies in it.

Don't try to time anything, just keep your eyes/ears open and pull the trigger. Time will do the rest.

I am with you... I didn't buy this fund yesterday, I bought into my international and domestic funds (but down of course). I don't mind the markets being down at all - HUGE BUYING OPPORTUNITY.

Something will have to be done, just way to much investor wealth wiped off yesterday - we're all investors.

I may buy some more of this fund on the 15th as well - I'll have to wait and see what makes the most sense then. (I am buying into 4 currently... GABUX, SWFFX, TWEGX and TWCVX).

VERY EXCITING TIMES!

What makes me so angry is that if the 700B bill had been passed today by The House, the financials would have ended up in positive territory, along with a lot of other mutual funds. This bill would have benefited the financial stocks more than any other stocks.

The House will be back in session on Thursday and they will have to do something about this bill because everyone who voted against it will end up losing their jobs.

Just try to stay calm. I know it's not easy, even if it is only on paper but something will have to be done about that bill or we'll end up like "the great Depression". Now I'm not a person who likes running up a big government tab, but in this case it was absolutely necessary.

I've already called Washington to complain. This is simply going to affect too many people. Actually I would have bought today, but I have money put into my Schwab account on the 15th of every month and I've already spent last month's quota.

Everything will work out. :)

Sep 18, 2008 - 08:20 AM EDT

Sector Performance Since July 15th

Hickey and Walters (Bespoke) submit:
While the July 15th S&P 500 lows have been handily broken, there are three sectors which have managed to stay above their closing levels from that day.

Interestingly, two of them are not defensive and they are not sectors that have managed to insulate themselves from the housing meltdown. In fact, they are the sectors which got us here in the first place! As shown below, the two sectors that have done best since July 15th are Consumer Discretionary and Financials!

Good for you! Yes I like it that you can buy in small amounts. Since I got in on 7/24/08 I am up 13.24%. The most I have paid for shares is $11.84 (bought shares as low as 11.18 on 9/17/08). Before I buy I check to see if the ^BIX, ^BKX, XLF, KBE & the top 10 holdings of the fund are down. Usually you can go to CNBC & they'll tell you if financials are down for the day, but I never buy when the financials are up. I buy, buy, buy low & will sell high! Good luck everbody. Next time I buy I'll post it on here the day I am buying.

I just started with Schwab mutual funds a month or so ago. I love it that you can just by $100 to start (most other ones I looked at had $1000+ minimums), so for the beginner investor with very little funds, Schwab is the way to go.

I bought only $125 worth a couple weeks ago at $12.10. I was very happy today (though wishing I bought more. Each month I'm trying to split up $100-200 up between various Schwab funds.

I think this is a GREAT PLAY for this time... there is so much blood in the water in this sector, it's an exciting time.

I picked up a few more shares this week as well (at $12.10).

This bear market is a once in a generation buying opportunity - one day we'll be telling our kids about 200-GREAT!

Good for you!!!! I bought some more shares on Monday and Wednesday this week when the market was badly down. I'm sure that after the 7.69% gain on Thursday, you're a happy camper. Good Luck.

This fund is almost too good to be true, but I have to say that I have never bought any shares of it unless the financial sector is down for the day. That strategy works great for me.

This fund is an incredible buying opportunity for those getting in NOW. I think we can all agree with Fannie and Freddie being bailed out we've come pretty much to the bottom. This fund isn't holding any of that trash anyway.

3 - 5+ years from now every dollar you are investing here could really pay BIG!

Other than that pesky 2% redemption fee I think this SWFFX is a solid play for this current economic situation. I jumped in this week - I feel good about where it's going in the next 2 - 3 years. Just in time for one of my daughters college.

I have shares in the SWFHX HealthCare fund and the SWOIX International fund for an IRA. I just put a certain amount monthly in each mutual fund. It's just too difficult to try to figure out when there's a "bottom", but I always put it in when the market's down. On all of these three funds once you put a minimum of $100 into each fund, you can put as little as $1.00 in to make purchases. I just don't like putting large sums in a mutual fund all at one time. :)

Although the market has been so crazy lately, I decided to buy some shares today. The price was down 4.35% from yesterday's price ($11.65 a share), so I'll just see how it works out. I just wanted to be able to get into the financials before we got into another bull market (which of course could be another year). Anyway, I'll probably just do the dollar cost averaging approach.
