This fund is better in a retirement account as it has a fairly high annual portfolio turnover (90% or so) and has a tendency to make a lot of money and distribute as short term and long term capital gains (yeah!). That said, I have it both in my IRA as well as a taxable account. SCMLX is consistently ranked in the top 1-2% of its category, an amazing feat. Arnie Schneider is a friggin genius.

Hey,

I'm also waiting to get the 20K together for this fund. Arnie Schneider III is a very intelligent investor...in the same league with Bruce Berkowitz (Fairholme -FAIRX), Marty Whitman (Third Avenue-TAVFX). It's always best, if you can to hold a fund in an IRA (never give uncle sam your money). However the high entry costs almosts implies that (1) You have a nice IRA balance, or (2) You just gotta have it in a taxable account.

The turnover isn't that bad, so a taxable account should be fine.

This fund is impressive, but the 20K minimum is a little high for me at the moment. Question I have is if one were to hold it, would one have it in a taxable account, or ira?
