I'm a long term investor in this. RSNRX is up 27.83% year to date. I expect a small pull back, but long term this thing is golden. If I had more capital I would buy more. I could roll over my 401K, which is in a healthcare fund, (SHSAX) and put it in RSNRX, but I better hang on to something that,s not quite so volatile, even if I don,t get quite the big returns of RSNRX.

I've been Grand Fathered into this fund since 11-04 so I've enjoyed quite a run, but this is really getting painful.

May 12th "08" - 43.55
Sept. 9th "08" - 29.72!!!!

That,s 31.75%!!!

When or will this turn around?

A couple things that should be kept in mind. First, if you have held RSRNX continuously since they instituted the front-end load, you are grandfathered, and you don't have to pay this charge when you add to your position. My brokerage (Fidelity) just has fill out extra paperwork for me when I add to my position or even start a new position in any of their other funds.

Second, RSRNX is a value oriented fund. It's underperformance in bull markets (1999-2000) and overperformance in bear markets (2001-2002) is a reflection of this investment style. Thus, the reduced volatility that someone mentioned.

Finally, I don't think the performance of this fund is going to be outstanding over the next year or so. Natural resource companies and the commodities they own are overpriced right now. I believe the commodity bubble is in the process of deflating. However, unlike the tech and housing bubble, the long term fundamentals of the natural resource sector is very good, and I think the long term performance of this fund will reflect this.

This fund has a (.25%) fee at the time of sell thru my provider. For example, $100,000.00 * 0.0025= a fee of $250.00.
Other than that, it's reflected in the price. I'll give up $250 @ time of sell for a fund that has had 31.14% return in the last five years!

This is true, and I first read about PRNEX in an article from Marketwatch dated OCT.17,2007 which compared the two. And Natural-resources mutual-funds have outperformed every other fund category over not just three or five years, but 10 and 15 years as well. However looking at the chart now(7-20-08), PRNEX has dropped below the 200 day Moving Average. The next support is $60, and if it hold, it looks like it can hit as high as $75. This is also a great fund from looking at its tract record.
Since both are having about the same rate of return for the 15 years. Now the question that needs to be asked is.... "What can I afford to buy, $62.18 with no loads or $38.38 with loads?" The article was called "Large-cap growth funds ready to roll". I'll copy and paste the article below.....

Goldberg's lone sell recommendation of the interview was the U.S. Global Resources fund (PSPFX) which he dismissed as being pricey and gimmicky despite a five-year annualized return of roughly 50% per year. In its place, Goldberg favored T. Rowe Price New Era (PRNEX)and RS Natural Resources (RSNRX), both funds that have done markedly less than the U.S. Global fund over the short term, but which have achieved similar 10-year results with less volatility.

RS Global Natural Resources RSNRX as of 6/30/08

Last //// Prior
month / quarter / 1 YR /// 5 YR /// 10 YR
0.72% / 16.13% / 27.65% / 31.14% / 18.88%

Since the end of last quarter, the fund has done a correction and is presently at $38.38(7/18/08). It hit a 52wk hi of $45.01 on 5/20/08. Looking at the charts, you can see that it rebounds very well from its mid year corrections. Last year, the mid year lows was $32.99 and rebound to $41.52 by the end of the year. That's an increase of $8.53, not to mention the dividend. Last year the dividend paid $2.6771.
This is also a fund that is provided by my employer. There are about 21 funds offer by my 401k and this is the only fund that has had positive returns, not to mention double digit returns! Guess where my co-workers are transfering their funds too. Like most new employees, I picked this fund blindly when I hired on in Jan. '03. It was only $13.76 a share. Since then I've enjoyed over 30% return. Not bad? Like Jim Cramer says...."Do The Homework!" and make the call yourself.
By the way, I'd love some feedback....good or bad!

Manager is smart. He obviously saw the alcan move coming. I plan on putting another $5k in tomorrow. My other favorites are ICBMX and FLVCX. Between these 3, there's a lot of diversification and good performance record. More going $$ into ICBMX and FLVCX also. Good luck to all. I'm hoping to have my house paid of in 5 years when I can get access to my Roth. Any thoughts on CGM focus? His holdings are outrageous, but it's really hard to tell where he's at because I guess he shorts a lot. If he would just stick to his original holdings, seems like the fund would be better off. The prospectus has holdings as of 12/06. Are the hard copies more updated on these holdings listed on Yahoo? Anyone know? Gees, he lists over 8% in Allegheny. I wonder if he shorted that.

Tough to say, consolidation among the big boys is pretty much done and reserve quotas were not met. Without sufficent reserves some of RSNRX holdings are looking cheap (Price,PE and Dividends).

I am more concerned with the effect of a possible Iran and Russia consortium on natural gas, plus the Iranian oil shipments may end up staying in their country due to increased consumption, money going to nuclear program instead of subsidizing energy programs, drying up of oil and a trade embargo?. Either way we see higher oil prices sooner rather than later. Even at our highs this year.
