Well I hope everyone is feeling better tonight. I think the worst of the blood bath for the financials may be over. We are finally back above $20 plus and the dividends should help move this back up where it belongs. Good luck to all the brave hearts who stayed long...

I was looking at putting some money in this fund when I came across your message. I am always amazed when somebody says a 25% decrease in value is not a "loss". True it hasn't "cashed", but put that new value in a current personal balance sheet statement and explain to me again why your net worth has not been impacted. People just do not understand the impact of an unrealized gain/loss on their personal statements.

Well my last post was over 6 months ago and we are currently down about 25% from that closing price back in Dec 2007. the good news is that I didn't dollar average down, but now with all the FED support for Fannie Mae and Feddie propping up the financials, I really think it's time to add to the portfollio. These bank stocks have been hammered and IMHO they are now very close to the bottom for this year. there may be some more write offs and dividend reductions in the next few months, but I think this is a good time to pick up some more shares and just hold on. If I'm wrong, you will still be earning the didvidends and capital gains if you stay long and continue to hang in there, I haven't lost the 25% since I've never sold any of my original original shares. Good luck...

I think many regional banks have Municipal Bonds as an investment which traditionally had been a "safe investment", however the major Bond Insurers appear to not have enough reserves to cover the trillions of CDO's and SIV's that are being written off as worthless.

It's predicted that bond insurers will be down-graded due to this lack of reserves which will cause a "equal" downgrade of bonds including Muni's in their portfolios. As soon as this occurs, all financial firms including banks that have these investments will need to "write-down" the value of their bonds.

Doesn't look good. Hope I'm misinformed.

Hi,
I called JH. The fund paid a per share dividend of $8.29 long term capital gain. $ .49 per share short term capital gain; and, another gain of $ .19 per share, I forgot for what. Any way the total payout is $ 8.97 per share. It probably hasn't shown up yet if you hold it with a brokerage firm, mine hasn't. Hope this helps.

I'm concerned as to how much exposure this Regional Bank fund has to the mortgage, homebuilders and loans related to the sub-prime, Prime and ALT-A loans.
