You are right. This fund is made of FLOATING RATE debt. Since the rate floats it does not work the same with the yield curve as other funds. It usually would do well in an environment where interest rates go lower. The liquidity problems and fear of anything that has to do with banks is the problem. These loans are all backed by collateral AND have no exposure to sub-prime real estate. Hold unless you desperately need the money.

I am suprized to find most of the posts do not know what this investment is. I am not 100% clear either but I think what this fund is made up of are, bank loans made by various banks to businesses. The banks then sell the loans they have made into the secondary market; that is us or Highland Floating Rate Fund and we hold or sell per our fund managers decisions.
What I think is happening to this fund, I have not spoken to an investment advisor on this, is that the secondary markets are practically non-functioning. No one is buying or selling credit right now. Risks have risen because of the recession and many are expecting increase business defaults and bankruptcies. I do not think this fund should go down much from this level, its not leveraged. I also think as this fund recovers so will the stock market. When the secondary credit market recovers money will start back into equities.

Anyone agree?
Does anyone know the credit rating on this funds holdings?

85% of this fund is in Bonds, we just had the largest rate cut in years, bond prices are going up, this fund goes down. The stock market goes down, this fund goes down, the stock market goes way up, this fund goes down. I have lost a lot of money, I just want out. My broker at Merrill keeps telling me hold in there. I just want to know what will turn this dog around?

PS - checking their positions, their #1 is E - which is an energy, petrol company hdqtred in ROME...read about it by entering "E" in the quotes section....then, there's HCA (Hospital Corp of A) and FORD and, and.....eeeekkkk!!!! :-) Charter Communications looks like it's one of the strongest positions in this fund. I've had it for about four years and went from up about 12,14% to down 5%. So I'm just trying to get out what I put in (well, minus the 5% and four years of fees).
