brose,

I like the outcome of your Bond holdings, good going... I'm also invested in HLEAX and HCTAX recommended by my broker of course.

It appears the Markets are improving let's hope the unemployment numbers stablizes and or decrease as we start 2010...

Good luck with your investments as well.

Wallace,
Different broker- I use Morgan keegan- but they may share the same philosophy. My bond fund is the Total Return Bond fund and I contemplated dumping it as well. I decided against it and now I'm glad I kept it. with systematic contributions and DRIP I acquired a bunch of it over the last year. Normally I'm right in there with the "chiken little" crowd but this time I held steady and it's beginning to payoff. Good luck to you and all Hartford Fund holders!

brose,

we may have the same broker, we own several of the same funds for my ROTH as well, but i too pulled monies out of American funds and over to the Hartford funds instead...

Cap App and the other one with the same name both has performed nice compared to S&P, as many others within the family of funds...

I got hit hard holding their Bond funds last year, quickly dumped, but maybe that wasn't the right move, I depended on my Edward Jones broker to advise, but he too didn't know what to do during the heat of the crisis...

Yeah, I assumed I was the last man standing for the longest time. I'm still holding and have been adding in my Roth throughout the "crisis". I hold Cap App, Dividend & Growth, and Bond funds through Hartford. All things considered, I am relatively pleased with their performance. I also have some American funds that iddn't do quite so well.

This fund is down over 25% from when I purchased it 2 1/2 years ago. I realize that there are several stocks which have performed the same or worse, but when a mutual fund, which is comprised of many different stocks, from several sectors and countries, performs this poorly, then it may be time to cut my losses and move on. Too damn risky. On a 300 point "down" day, the share price seems to drop $1, but on a 300 point "up" day, it may go up $.37. Somebody is stuffing their pockets, and it isn't us. I'm tired of buying boats, planes, and cars for the CEO's that lure and screw us. Good luck to you all.

Hey guys, been an owner of ITHAX for about 4 years, really like the vs category #'s but I've been doing some research.

Why is this (or any mutual fund, especially one with a front end load) a better long term investment than say an Index Fund? Like Vanguards Total Stock Market?

Sorry if this is a noob question but I'm trying to find the best vehicle for the next 35 years and at a 5% front end load, I'm starting to question whether this fund is that.

My portfolio fund manager bought this fund along with 2 others (Hartford Global Health- HGHAX and Hartford Global Technology Fund - HGTAX) back in late December 2004. Fortunately, he put the bulk of my money in ITHAX and its made 12.7 % alone since that time.

The health fund has only made 6.92 % and the technology fund - 9.86%. I'm going long on all three and by long, I mean at least 12-13 years. Shooting for early retirement in 2020 and it really will depend on how all three do.

Its hard to sell when I feel uncertain about the market - I really dont feel one way or the other...and I have alot of personal expenses coming up like my wife taking a month trip over to Europe to visit family with the kid...

and Property Taxes just seem to be getting higher and higher. Maybe I want to sell to make me feel rich again...

I have learned from previous situations like this its better to live with less and make the bills than to sell a stock or mutual fund thats doing well...

AH...I guess Im in for a while longer - if Im wrong I still have the kids college fund to cash out!
