Let's grade the performance of Fidelity FFIDX Fund management. The most objective way to do this is to compare with indicies such as S&P 500, and this seems appropriate since our fund isn't specifically focused or otherwise specialized. Simply using the recent semiannual report and Yahoo, my grade assignments are:

Long-Term..... C-
Recent........ D- (almost an F)

We recieved $4,975 FFIDX ten years ago as a result of my mother in laws death. In that period we have not touched it...re-invested all dividends etc. Today that investment is worth $3000....so much for professionals and so much for the long term view....put your money in a mattress.

Total of 50% in dividend income securities of your portfolio for 2008 is reccomended.
In particular, at least 15% in dividend-weighted index of US stocks (or actively-managed fund that is beating S&P 500) like FFIDX, plus 5% in a high-earning US stock fund or index, the rest of the above 50% (25%) should be in the same style foreign market equity funds and emerging markets.

Good Luck in this volatile market!

Here is your answer.
The fund paid a distribution. Check your account. You should either have more shares,or a nice dividend, depending on how you chose to have it when you bought fund.

Yes!!! Finally!!!!. The fund has quietly trounced the S&P 500 for 2007 so far, (16.34% vs. 6.13% thru 11/30). This is the first time I can remember this happening and I have held this fund for a looooong time.

John Avery's biggest bet, Monsanto is up 90% for the year. Maybe time to take some profits there John. Trees don't grow to the sky. Then again, with a little help from RoundUp maybe they do!!!

The grandaddy of all conservative stock funds, has been buying and holding a slice of S&P500 type dividend paying stocks since the 1930's.

Performance has always been middle of the road. But expenses are also well below average for a growth & income type fund, so I have had a bit if money in this turtle for over 10 years. Could have picked better, but many are worse.
