Seems like the rank of the fund in this category dropped a lot after Hesse started last June. The fidelity website says he was the manager of Select IT, which performed fine. Should we put confidence on him long term?

Bear Stearns was the 11th largest holding, which is going to hurt quite a lot. I'm surprised that FSLBX didn't own significant shares in JP Morgan.

Sigh. Top holding (Lehman), down 40-something percent today. Don't know if FSLBX owns/owned any BearS. The haircut today looks like it's gonna take some skin with it.

Still want to be long this area; wish I'd jumped in today instead of last month.

Will have a stiff drink, tonight, for meself and fellow shareholders.

I second that concern about management tenure and change.
Morningstar's website says Yolanda Taylor has been a portfolio manager at Fidelity since 1997 and Fidelity's own site says she previously managed:

1a) Fidelity Advisor Health Care Fund: Class A
1b) Fidelity Advisor Health Care Fund: Class B
1c) Fidelity Advisor Health Care Fund: Class I
1d) Fidelity Advisor Health Care Fund: Class T
1e) Fidelity Advisor Health Care Fund: Class C
1f) Select Health Care Portfolio
1g) VIP: Health Care Portfolio - Initial Class
1h) Select Pharmaceuticals Portfolio
1i) Select Biotechnology Portfolio
2a) Select Banking Portfolio
3) Select Construction and Housing Portfolio
and now, 2b) FSLBX.

I'll have to look up how well they did but I have no idea how long she managed these - some time obviously between 1997 and late-2006. That's quite a bit a territory - argueably 3 to 7 domains/sectors:
1) healthcare/pharma/biotech
2) banking/brokers
3) construction/housing

From Fidelity's own April 2006 prospectus, it seems Charles Hebard was the previous manager but only since March 2006. So he was manager of FSLBX only from 3/06 to 8/06?! (He also managed another fund at the same time so maybe it was an interim type thing?)

If anyone has more information, please share...

This fund is a specialty, of course more riskier and not diversified. However, it covers not the banks and other traditional financial sectors stocks that all hold.

Brokerage and Investment banking was a hit last year (private equity firms especially), the question is if you hold this one sector fund (no more than 5% in your total portfolio) how will do this year?!, always a concern with specialty funds as part of long-term fund portfolio.
