You have similar fund choices as me. Over the previous 5 years, this one has an average annual growth of around 25%, so I don't mind an off year. In fact, I increased my contributions to this one right now. Fight the fear - the way to make money is buy low, sell high and not the other way around.

I know that feeling. My 401K is also managed by Hewitt. Five years ago I chose DFIVX (International) over fixed income, big c(r)aps, small c(r)aps, etc...i.e., the least of all evils. I wanted china but they didn't offer. So I went along with DFIVX and had my money almost tripled so far. It turned out that International outperformed the US markets by a big margin. At the same time, I invested agressively in MCHFX, via personal account (taxable), and IRA accounts and also tripled my money. It turned out that china outperformed US markets by a big margin. With the dollar losing its value substantially, you'd do well to hold DFIVX. Let time work for you as it did for me. Mutual funds are a lot safer than individual stocks. To save more money, i.e., by reducing operational expenses, I am converting my mutual fund MCHFX to ETFs.
