Part of being a good investor is paying attention to good computer housekeeping. A lot of clutter in the Registry or Disk Drive(s) can cause slow booting and shutdown, system hangs or crashes, and a slow running or erratic machine. Some of my best and most effective programs are freeware (open source). Such programs are made available free of charge to anyone who wants to download them.

Today, I'd like to talk about Ccleaner. Of all the utilities in my toolbox folder, this is perhaps the most useful and greatest value. This amazing program will safely clean and remove all the needless junk left behind by the operating system, the moving, deleting, or renaming of files, program installs and uninstalls, temp files, tracking cookies, etc. Therefore freeing up a lot of accumulated and wasted disk space.

The program layout is simple and self-explanatory so no long or complicated directions to read or learn. When running the program the first time, I recommend you first click Options > Cookies and from the pick-list, place the web sites you visit most often into the right pane. This will instruct Ccleaner to retain the cookies you want to keep.

After running the cleaner (use default options, do not use any of the advanced options) be sure to also run the Registry “Scan for issues”. (The registry-backup option can be turned off in the options menu if you don’t use it.) This will find and eliminate any errors in the Registry and help greatly with speeding up your computer’s booting and shutdown process. It can also help prevent system lockups, crashes, or unexpected reboots.

Now you only have two additional tasks to complete the job (1) Defrag your disk on a regular basis (2) Run your Virus Scan program on a regular basis. More on these issues later.
