Take yesterday, 5/14/07, for example. The markets were down generally, but this fund went up - only a penney to be sure, but it beats going down. Reliability ..... AAAHHhhhh !

as are most Am Funds F sharre, but this one especially - even with those pesky 12-1b fees whoch I hate so much. Very much value oriented, it is not a barn burner, but a steady performer that will protect you in market reversals. Consistently beats the "moderate allocation" index and the category. Some of the holdings will put you to sleep (GE, Citibank), others are similarly boring, but this fund gets the job done with causing anxiety.

Definitely, buy the F shares - no load of any kind. Your broker wants to get rich off you. If he wanted to help you, he'd find a better way .... 'Course, the guy does have to make a living.

I'm going to start buying "F" shares instead of "A" shares. I believe we are headed for a recession next year, which should force a market correction by the 4th quarter of this year. American Funds Capital Builder seems like a prudent place to put assets as it did not go down as far as the rest of the market in 2000.

My broker suggested we buy A shares of this fund which have a 5.75% front load. There looks like a big advantage for him if I buy the A shares, there is a big commission for him. Is there any benefit to me?
