I don't understand why they hung on to MSFT so long. Microsoft has problems (current versions office and Windows Vista are FLOPS in my opinion). Open Source software is becoming more reasonable option as more and more of us cannot afford Microsoft's office suite and Open Source compatibility improves.

Lastly, isn't the PC going to be "done away with" in a short time as new technologies come online? What piece of that does Microsoft have?

I know why. before the old aim fund changed to the new P fund, the fund was closed to new investors. For a couple of years no one could come into the fund. Without additional capital the fund was going to fail. Then the fund was reorganized as the P fund. Even since, the fund has continued to decline. My bet is that until aim restructures the portfolio with this fund, the fund will, at the very best, have only a very slight growth. I have lost my investment with this fund and don't expect it to recover much less see my investment return. By the way, I purchased this fund with a Roth IRA mutual fund. The old Roth funds were considered to be the better IRAs to go with. I feel that aim found a way to break the fund down to nothing so that they would not have to pay the retirement out to the share holders. Maybe if enough of us complain to aim they might do something to get this fund productive.

I agree about FC's style. I also have had this fund for several years. When it tanked in '01, moved to another fund, but kept a minimum amount going into this fund to see if it would recover. It has slowly rebuilt until this year. Unfortunately, everything is down, and the fund I "replaced" this one with is doing just as bad.

Sounds like everyone in AIM Summit (P) (now INVESCO) arrived here the same way. I beleive it was about 1984 when I and my wife both ended up with the front loaded nonsense contracts. Three seperate accounts, one normal account and two IRA's. I cashed out of the non-IRA account in 1993 to buy a home. And the other two accounts have stumbled along every since. My concern lately has been that the fund hasn't been moving back up with the market. Any ideas as to why?

As a large cap growth fund, I wouldn't call Summit a conservative fund by any means and 18% for the last 5 years isn't exactly underperforming either.

It's up 18% the last 5 years, outperformed 83% of its peers. This is bad? I don't get it. Everyone loved this fund in 99 when it was up over 50%. What do you expect is going to happen in a down market with a fund that is up 50%? You think Summit took a hit, hopefully you didn't have USAA Sci and Tech. It lost 94% from 00-02. Ouch, that hurt. It been up since but I don't think I will ever recover my initial lump sum investment.

I too have been in a "fire & forget" mode since 1992 with Aim Summit. When I wanted to bale I would get cold feet or find a snippet of good news in Morningstar or somewhere else that enticed me to stay.

When my contract time (15 years) was up I stopped contributing but kept my shares in place. SMMIX seems to be keeping pace with its peers the last couple of years so I'm hoping that trend continues.

You must be in the military right??? I've had this fund since 88. I got sucked up into one of those "contract plans" back then. I stopped contributing back in 99 or so because of it's performance. I eventually wanted to transfer all of my assets to another fund that's within my brokerage firm. What I found out is that with "p" shares you generally can't do that unless it's with another AIM fund. And as far as my liquid assets with Summit, you have to sell then buy what you want. You can't transfer any funds to for example a brokerage acct which is what I think REALLY STINKS!
The military clamped down on "contractual plans" some years ago because people were getting screwed. Late 90's summit was in basially nothing but tech and yes, we got butchered. Now they seem to be doing alright since changing their plan to a "conservative one" which I think was a convenient way for them to keep themselves from looking so bad because of their performance. Those of us who started many years ago joined because of their aggressive nature but go figure.....midstream they flop 180 degrees.
I'll be getting out when the time's right which is probably going to be soon.

I got suck into using USPA&IRA in 89' during OBC. I was lucky in that I saw th error in my ways but only stopped contributing after I paid my front load. I too was a Victim of the price plunge but I just let my shares ride. It is finally coming back but I am about ready to punch most quickly. I hate he pressure sales style that the FC reps use. Especially when you don't ever hear from them until you are leaving them. Then they are at your door everyday.

Ditto, I started in the mid 80's also and had a good run-up until the tech bubble popped in '00. Luckliy I cashed out $60k of investment to put as a down payment on my house 1 year prior (against the violent warnings of USPA "agent"). Just hoping the shares will work their way back up, but i am no longer adding any new money to this, there are much better funds out there to place new money.

I too have had this fund since the mid 80's. It was good until 2001 and then it really tanked and has not recovered since. I have been waiting for some type of gain to reduce my losses. It is going to go soon.

Not happy, either. Not at all. Have had this fund since about 1986. Made good progress for a few years, and now it's in the tank. I need to take my lumps now and get out of it.
