1. population increases by 33% from 6bn to 8bn
2. water demand up 30%
3. energy demand up 50%
4. food demand up 50%
One basic limiting factor is water and the "large amounts of water swallowed up by intensive farming."
Much of this is based on findings/perdictions by UK chief scientist John Beddington. and while it wont happen over night it will be and ever increasing problem. Another interesting article is "Are Dry Harvests the future in California", talks about dust bowl conditions and fight over water rations between fish needs and ag needs. Other issues are urbanization and food demand in improving economies. So this means All areas of water conservation from better irrigation to desalinization to pipelines etc are going to have to grow jmho.
