yhoo id tracking,
Thanks for resurrecting my post from over a year ago. And what exactly are my so called lies in that post? Everything (but the stock price) I said 13 months ago remains true IMO: 1. Trader Joe's is the #2 natural foods chain in the United States, with estimated annual sales of $3.5 to $4.5 billion--3 to 4 times greater than OATS. 2. Has OATS gotten its act together? Maybe, but I don't think so. One freak quarter before the CEO dumps 1/2 his stock proves nothing. If OATS produces solid comps and produces good profits for the remainder of 2006, then I'll change my opinion. Haven't seen it yet though. 3. OATS didn't make any money for the next 2 Quarters after I wrote that posting. Again, they made money in their Q4, but it isn't clear to me that it is sustainable. 4. Do they have a business model that can compete with either TJ's or Whole Foods? Not IMO. 5. Is OATS at risk for eventual bankruptcy as I claimed? Well yes they are. They've only got $4 million in tangible net worth and over $100 million in long-term debt. They haven't produced consistent profits. They've lost $81 million over 19 years of business and $33 million the past 3 years. Bankruptcy remains a distinct possibility IMO if the business isn't sold within the next few years. 6. Is Henry's a good fit with OATS? Not IMO. 2 very different businesses and Henry's undermines any claims that OATS tries to make towards any real commitment to quality standards. Henry shows the hypocrisy and the lack of integrity. 7. Was I right about the stock price? No, obviously not. Ron Burkle and short-term speculators have bid it up over the past year. However, a mistaken opinion does not equate to a lie as you seem to believe. Time will tell whether my analysis of OATS fundamental weakness is a mistake or not. I don't think it is. We shall see.
